Movement Therapy

Finding the approach that is best for you

The Process

1

Initial Intake

This session will take place in-office or via Telehealth where we dive into getting to know each other. Intake questions are formed from a bio-psycho-social perspective to get to know clients holistically.

2

Personalized suggestions.

After 1-3 sessions, we collaboratively assess if movement therapy suits you. We'll evaluate your needs to customize a session that fits your circumstances. The therapist will recommend movement practices like running therapy or somatic therapy and provide education on the benefits of each form of counseling. Together, we will establish a foundation for your effective and fulfilling therapeutic journey.

3

Engage in Mindful Movement

After establishing which form of movement therapy best suits you, we will choose an outdoor location to meet at for the following session. We will utilize movement, mindfulness, and traditional psychotherapy interventions to bring you to a state of Zen.

After our first movement session we can develop a schedule together including a hybrid of sessions going forward: ie. alternating in-office/telehealth sessions and movement sessions bi-weekly.

FAQs

Is Running Therapy a fitness program?

No. This therapy isn't about exercise or fitness. Instead, it emphasizes reconnecting with your body to improve mental clarity and self-empowerment. All runs are done at a conversational pace to allow for thought and emotional processing, rather than worrying about speed or distance.

Do we talk while we run?

Only if you want to! All of the running meditations I guide you through can be done internally/mindfully. However, if you feel the need to process verbally as we run that is okay too. All running sessions are at conversational pace which means you should be at a pace where you feel comfortable to speak if you choose to. Don’t worry though, I guide the pace every step of the way so you can remain focused on the meditation!

How long do we run?

You have the option for us to run anywhere between 5-20 minutes. Because I want my clients to embrace their autonomy and give space to personal boundaries, you will always be able to dictate when you want to stop the activity and when you want to begin. I will also provide verbal check-ins every five minutes after we start movement.

Can I choose more than one kind of therapy in one day?

Yes! Sessions are between 45-60 minutes leaving us with plenty of time to process verbally utilizing traditional psychotherapy interventions, engage in a 5-20 minute run, and end the session with a grounding somatic practice.
